Programme de Recherche sur les Inégalités face aux Maladies de l'Université de Sherbrooke
“The
first (objective) is to optimize the health of the population by employing
the most advanced state of knowledge about the causation of disease,
illness management and health maximization. The second and equally
important goal is to minimize the disparities across population subgroups
so that certain groups are not at a systematic disadvantage with regard
to their access to health services and achievement of optimal health.”
Barbara Starfield (1998).
Welcome
to the PRIMUS web site!
PRIMUS is a health geomatics interdisciplinary research group that is composed of researchers and professionals in health, mathematics, geomatics and computer science. These researchers and professionals also work in collaboration with many other researchers and collaborators mostly from Quebec and Canada.
Originally used only by specialists, geomatics are now available to all kinds of users from different fields. However, very few use geomatics for studies on chronic and mental diseases. The PRIMUS research group conducts studies in these fields and focuses mainly on the health of rural, deprived, immigrant or minority populations. Always using a public health perspective, the research projects conducted by the PRIMUS research group essentially concern disease outcomes and health care utilization, as well as medical workforce analysis across the country.

The Spatio-Temporal Information System
on Chronic Diseases
SIST-MC |
|
| Produced by the PRIMUS Research Group, with the collaboration of k2 Geospatial and GEOIDE network, the SIST-MC is an on-line easy to access information system on chronic diseases. It will allow users, and particularly decision makers, to question medical-administrative databases at different levels and produce results displayed as tables, graphs or maps almost instantly. |
